He is depicted as a larger-than-life figure, embodying the Viking ideal of a fierce warrior with exceptional skill in battle and poetry.

The Viking settlers Egill Skallagrímsson lived in Mosfellsdal his later years and it is said that he hid a treasure here in the valley.
